In the previous editions I always tried to spread the selections to reach a high variety of generations and genres. I always wondered how to touch the antique games from the Atari age since they are great but doesn’t really have a very deep moment to explore.

So I decided, let’s do something slightly different on this edition. I’ll talk about five great games from the Atari 2600 and which features gave them the edge when compared to other games.

The Musical Box #02: Mario's Galaxy of Music

Super Mario Bros. is perhaps the most influential and famous videogame franchise ever created. Since 1985, when the first game was released for the NES, millions of people have played the role of the distinctive Italian plumber, jumping tirelessly through dangerous worlds and castles to ultimately save princess Peach from the hands of evil Bowser.

Mario games are considered by many in this industry as masterpieces, and they have raised the bar regarding many aspects of videogame creation, both technical and artistic.

The music is just one of the many highlights of this franchise. The “Overworld Theme”, composed by Koji Kondo for the original Super Mario Bros., is instantly recognizable by almost every gamer, and even those who are not interested in videogames. This song has also been performed by many groups, bands and even orchestras from all around the world.

Today’s episode its about a moment delivered by one of the most important phases of a game experience: The tutorial. Yeah... I know a lot of you guys may think the tutorial is unnecessary or you simply don’t like them. But who thinks that way is wrong... a tutorial is the welcoming committee of the experience. It’s of immeasurable importance to make a well-crafted tutorial. It shouldn't even feel like one, and at least it should set the tone of your game. The moment of today is the end of the great tutorial, Demon’s Soul... the moment you learn what’s this game is about.
